Intro to Quantum Mechanics on this site: what is stored, where, and who can see it.
What is stored
- Your account: your username, when it was made, and a hash of your password (scrypt). The password itself is never stored.
- Your sign-ins: for each browser where you are signed in, a hash of its sign-in cookie, when it was made and last used, and the browser's name as it reports it.
- Your progress: your answers, the review schedule, your settings and dates, and how many minutes you studied each day.
- Problem reports you send: the reason, your note, and where you were in the course (unit, section or question, page address, course version, screen width and theme).
Your browser keeps the sign-in cookie and a working copy of your progress. There is no analytics, advertising or tracking, and the course contacts no other site.
Where it is stored
In files on this server, in one data folder with a folder for each account. Backups of that folder are kept for 14 days. If the site owner turns on request logging, the server log also holds the time, address and page of each request.
Who can see it
- You, in the course.
- The people who run this server, who can read the data folder. Admins of the site also see a list of accounts (username, when it was made, when it was last used and last saved), every problem report with the username of the person who sent it, and can download a backup of the data folder. They cannot see passwords.
- Nobody else. Nothing is sold or shared.
Your choices
- Download your data: in the course, Settings, Your data. The file holds everything listed above except the password and cookie hashes.
- Delete your account: in the course, Settings, Your account. It leaves the site at once. A copy is kept for 7 days so the site owner can undo a mistake, and is then removed for good. Backups made before that expire within 14 days. Problem reports you sent stay, without your username.
- Clearing your progress (Settings, Start over) works the same way: the old progress is kept for 7 days so it can be restored, then removed.
- Questions: ask the person who gave you access to this site.
